Texas Junior Masters 2006 Summary

The 2006 Texas Junior Masters has come and gone but the memories that the players and their families have will last a life time.

The Texas Junior Masters began July 18th with the Boys and Girls 12 and under. Smiles, high fives, hugs and fantastic golf ruled the event. The tournament was filled with great golf and emotional playoffs. Courtney Dow and Kenzie Wright both from Frisco, TX had family members and spectators on edge with a sudden death playoff. Courtney Dow got up and down from 40 yards in the playoff to extend the match and eventually prevail as champion on the 2nd playoff hole.

The Boys 11-12 had a made for TV sudden death playoff that went 5 holes and had the golf course buzzing and galleries following their every move. Eli Juren from Austin, TX and Richard Le from Bellaire, TX displayed some fantastic golf; Richard Le ended the playoff and prevailed as champion with a birdie putt.

I would also like to congratulate the following champions: Dylan Siebenaler Sugarland, TX, Jack Little Tomball, TX, Maggie Neece Colleyville, TX and Mary Vanderbloemen from Houston, TX.

July 21st brought Mexico’s and Texas best to Bastrop, TX for two days. Boys 16-18 Cory Atkins from Washington, TX and Girls 13-18 Ana Malagon from Tampico, MX both came out strong on the opening day posting 4 under 67’s on the scoreboard. Boys 13-15 Logan Chilton also decided to go in the red and post an opening 70, 1 under par for the day.

The second day was filled with great golf, come from behind wins, and a charging Brianna Coopman from Georgetown, TX.

Boys 13-15 Colt Melton from Amarillo, TX came back from 4 strokes on the final day to claim his Texas Junior Masters jacket. Boys 16-18 Rodolfo Cazaubon from Tampico, MX posted an impressive 69, 2 under par to comeback from 3 strokes to claim his Masters jacket. The Girls 13-18, charging, 9 strokes back Brianna Coopman came one stroke short from a playoff with a very impressive and 2006 Texas Junior Masters Champion Ana Malagon from Tampico, MX.

For you graduating seniors, I would like to wish you much luck for your future, in academics and golf as well.
