2008 Junior National Team Championship

The Junior National Team Championship will be a team competition for boys 16-18 held August 13-14, 2008 at The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, TX. Each team will consist of 3 juniors representing their participating state. International teams will also be invited to represent their country.
This event will be held during the 2008 Texas Junior Masters August 13-15, 2008.

NEW- Junior National Team Championship will accept 3 person teams representing any city in Texas.
GOLF COURSE- an Arthur Hill design 27 hole layout. The team competition will be held on The Oaks and Creeks course measuring at 6,867 from the tips par 72.
TEAM FORMAT/TEAM SCHEDULE OF PLAY- The field of team golfers will play 18 holes on each of two stroke play rounds August 13-14, 2008 (Wednesday-Thursday). The combined scores from the three-person team constitute the team score for each round. The two-day total is the team’s score for the team championship. The team competition concludes August 14th.
INDIVIDUAL HONORS- each player on each team will also be competing individually for an AJGA exemption in the 3 day stroke play competition with the field of the Texas Junior Masters boys 16-18 division(70 player field). The Texas Junior Masters will be a 54 hole stroke play competition August 13-15, 2008 at The Hyatt Hill Country Resort on the Oaks and Creeks course (same dates and course as team competition). Each individuals team players score the first 2 days of team competition will not only go towards their teams score but their individual score will also but included in the 54 hole stroke play competition (August 13-15th) for the Texas Junior Masters. Texas Junior Masters 54 hole stroke play competition concludes August 15th.
TEAM SELECTION The Junior National Team Championship is open to all boys’ 16-18 junior golfers outside of Texas and must maintain a 8 handicap or better or if player does not maintain a USGA handicap must have scoring average of 78 or better. Texas team will be selected by Texas Junior Masters top 3 Texas finishers from previous year stroke play competition.
TEAMS ENTERED- 3 Teams - Team Canada/Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, Team Mexico/Mexican Junior Golf Association, Team Texas /2007 Texas Junior Masters. Other teams committing will be announced at a later date and included on this list.
GROUPINGS AND STARTING TIMES Groupings and starting times for the first round will be available August 11th. They will be posted on the Texas Junior Masters web site under Tee Times page. Starting times for the second round will be available shortly after play on Wednesday has concluded.
REGISTERING FOR TEAM EVENT competitors will need to register under the Texas Junior Masters register page.
Team Mexico wins inaugural 2007 Junior National Team Championship
Bastrop, TX - Team Mexico was lead by Jorge Rodriguez from Tampico, MX posting a 71 the first day and a rain shortened 38 the second round, he also finished 2nd overall in the Boys 16-18 stroke play competition. Juan Carlos Perez and Armando Acosta also contributed with impressive scores to help Mexico win the inaugural championship. Team Texas came 1 stroke short of tying Mexico, they were lead by Abraham Ancer from Mission, TX who also won the stroke play competition and an AJGA exemption, Trent Redfern(Austin, TX) and Andrew Rollins(Round Rock, TX) also helped lead Texas to a great showing. Mike Broadfoot opened up with an impressive 74 to lead Team Canada to a 3rd place finish and also placed T-4th in the stroke play competition, Team Canada placed third overall and were also represented by Taylor Smith (Sasketchewan,Canada) and Nelson Yang(British Columbia, Canada)
